Our tea leaves...

An integral part of our chai journey are the ingredients we work with and the suppliers we deal with. Using high-quality, sustainably & ethically produced tea leaves do not just create a better overall product, but help to create a better world.

Tea Leaves

Good tea leaves make for good masala chai! That’s why we carefully select the tea we use and the suppliers we work with to ensure this. We only use tea leaves that have been hand-picked and produced in small batches, with only around 20% of tea being produced this way. The other 80% is predominantly machine harvested and mass produced for an increased volume.. which dosen’t align with our desired vision!

Supporting small-scale farms that look after the land & environment around them and have respect for the people who work for them is important to us; we simply wouldn’t have it any other way. This helps support & grow sustainable, regenerative farming practises that are better for everyone - the farmers, the planet and us! Whilst we use and will continue to use some organic certified teas, many tea farms are not organically certified due to the very strict regulations and high cost, making it simply unaffordable. This further increases the need to know exactly where our tea is coming from, how it’s produced and how it’s harvested. We wanted to share with you exactly where our tea leaves come from:

Ethelwold Tea Estate

We currently source our incredible organic Assam tea leaves from the Ethelwold Tea Estate located near Dibrugarh in Upper Assam.

All of the teas produced on this beautiful estate are single-origin and handpicked to make sure only the best leaves are selected and collected. They’re also committed to following environmentally-conscious farming practises; particularly important in such a biodiverse region like Upper Assam, as well as being very socially-conscious when it comes to the working & living conditions of their workers and their incomes.

AMBA Tea Estate

We are really excited to be sourcing tea leaves from the AMBA Tea Estate in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. They are an organic farm, guesthouse & social enterprise who, in their own words; aim to maximise local employment and incomes, while preserving and restoring the natural environment.

They are very focused on supporting the development of local communities, environmental restoration through sustainable, biodiverse farming practises, as well as being at the forefront for working with mental well-being charities that do incredible work throughout Sri Lanka. They really are more than just a tea estate and we absolutely love the work they do.

Besides producing incredible tea, they also grow a variety of organic spices, coffee, fruits, vegetables, you name it! They make all sorts of delicious artisanal products and supply businesses around the world. They even have guesthouses on site so you can visit and sample their incredible produce. A really amazing enterprise that’s much more than just a tea estate.

Tea People Ltd.

We also work with the Tea People; an award-winning Social Enterprise; meaning they send back 50% of their profits to fund educational and social projects in impoverished tea growing regions. A company that well and truly gives back! Sustainability is also a very important factor for them and to be reducing their environmental impact through they’re sourcing, packaging, products, delivery, etc which really stands out. They supply us with an organic rooibos tea which is in our rooibos masala chai. A truly stunning tea that reflects the company as a whole.

Keep coming back as we continue to work with more producers/suppliers and expand our masala chai range moving forwards!
